West Coast Players and director Susan Demers will hold auditions for Anna Ziegler’s The Wanderers on March 7 @ 2:00 pm and March 8 at 6:00 pm at the theatre, 21905 US Hwy 19 N in Clearwater. Performances are April 24-May 10, 2026 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm, with an additional 2:00 pm matinee on Saturday May 2.
 
Cast of Characters
 
Esther - A young, Orthodox Jewish woman in an arranged marriage who begins to question the constraints of her religious and social life. Age: 20s-30s
Schmuli - Esther's husband, also Orthodox, who grapples with traditional expectations of masculinity and his own gentleness. Age: 20s-30s
Sophie - A secular woman, married to Abe, who is also a writer but struggles with her career and the demands of family life. Age: 30s-40s
Abe - Sophie's husband, a successful novelist, who begins an email correspondence with Julia Cheever, a movie star. Age: 30s-40s
Julia Cheever - A famous actress who becomes involved in Abe's life through an email exchange, prompting him to question his own life choices. Age: 30s
 
Play Synopsis
 
Two marriages have seemingly little in common: Esther and Schmuli are Orthodox Jews navigating strictly defined rules and roles, while Sophie and Abe are secular and free to make their own choices. But both couples are growing apart as they strive to balance their individual identities with the families they’ve created. As Esther tests the boundaries of her personal freedom, Abe falls into a correspondence with a movie star that will shake the foundations of his marriage and career. This funny, moving and thoughtful play asks if following one’s truth is worth it, no matter the cost.
